Thought Field Therapy (TFT)

Thought Field Therapy (TFT) is a gentle, non‑invasive technique designed to bring rapid relief from emotional distress. Similar in principle to acupuncture, but without needles, it uses fingertip tapping on specific energy meridian points to help rebalance the body’s emotional system. Many people experience significant shifts within minutes, often feeling calmer, lighter, and more in control.

What Can TFT Help With?

Originally developed to treat phobias and traumatic stress, TFT has since evolved into a versatile approach that can support a wide range of emotional and behavioural challenges. It is used to address:

  • Stress & anxiety

  • Panic attacks

  • Depression

  • Obsessive compulsive disorder

  • Grief and loss

  • Acute trauma and PTSD

  • Anger and guilt

  • Pain

  • Sexual or relationship difficulties

  • Addictions (including food, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, gambling, nail‑biting, and more)

Many people find TFT helpful as a standalone technique, while others use it alongside counselling, coaching, or other therapeutic approaches.

How Does TFT Work?

When we think about a particular issue, memory, or fear, we “tune in” to a specific thought field, much like tuning a television to a particular channel. Within that field are the energetic patterns that trigger the emotional response we experience.

According to Dr. Roger Callahan, these patterns contain “perturbations”, disturbances in the body’s energy system that create emotional discomfort. By tapping on precise meridian points in a specific sequence, these perturbations can be neutralised.

Once the emotional charge is released:

  • The memory remains, but the distress attached to it fades.

  • You can think about the issue without feeling overwhelmed.

  • The emotional response no longer controls your thoughts or behaviour.

This process often brings a sense of clarity, calm, and emotional freedom.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), often called tapping, is a gentle, practical method for releasing emotional stress and restoring balance in the body. It combines elements of modern psychology with the ancient principles of acupressure: you tap lightly on specific meridian points while focusing on a troubling thought, feeling, or belief. Many people experience a noticeable shift in minutes, feeling calmer, clearer, and more grounded.

What Can EFT Help With?

EFT is widely used to ease emotional and physical discomfort. It can support people dealing with:

  • Stress & overwhelm, calming the nervous system and reducing tension

  • Anxiety, easing racing thoughts and physical symptoms

  • Phobias, reducing fear responses

  • Trauma & PTSD, gently processing difficult memories

  • Low mood or depression

  • Pain, supporting the mind–body connection

  • Self‑esteem issues, shifting limiting beliefs

  • Habits & cravings, from food cravings to smoking or nail‑biting

EFT can be used on its own or alongside counselling, coaching, or other therapeutic approaches.

How Does EFT Work?

EFT is based on the idea that emotional distress is linked to disruptions in the body’s energy system. When you think about a stressful memory or feeling, the body reacts, often with tension, anxiety, or discomfort. By tapping on specific meridian points while acknowledging the issue, you help the body release that emotional charge.

Here’s what typically happens during EFT:

  • You tune in to the emotion, memory, or belief you want to work on.

  • You tap on a sequence of meridian points while using simple, guided phrases.

  • The tapping sends calming signals to the brain, particularly the amygdala, the part responsible for the fight‑or‑flight response.

  • The emotional intensity begins to drop, often quickly.

  • The memory or thought remains, but the distress attached to it fades.

Many people describe EFT as feeling like a reset for the mind and body.

Vicky was very friendly and welcoming. I felt instantly at ease. We covered a lot of my background and I felt that Vicky was really listening to me and understanding my issue which is quite complex and multilayered. I like that we are working in collaboration and I’m not just being ‘fixed’ as Vicky gave me exercises to do to encourage me. I’m really looking forward to future sessions. - Anonymous
